Animal Therapy

Have you watched a chicken sit on a clutch of eggs for 21 days or a flock of ducks waddle up at feeding time to be sure they weren’t forgotten? Animals have been used in therapy since the time of the Ancient Greeks, and as early as the 1940s the American Red Cross used farm animals to help injured or ill veterans focus on healing beyond the traumas of war. At Project Victory Gardens, we see this every day—sitting with a Mama Hen while eggs hatch can be as therapeutic as any counseling session, and we’ve watched troubled children smile for hours while holding a chicken. If you or a Veteran, Service-member, or Dependent could benefit from animal therapy, contact us today to arrange a visit at projectvictorygardens.org.
